Griffins Win Third Straight with a 5-2 Triumph over Dominican

 The Chestnut Hill College Women's soccer team scored a season-high five goals as the won for the third straight time, defeating Dominican University of New York, 5-2 Saturday evening a Victory Field #1 in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.

The key conference win improves the Griffins record to 2-1-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games sand 4-2-1 overall.  The Chargers, last season's CACC regular season champions, fall to 4-4-1 overall and 2-3 in league play.  The win was also the Griffins' first against the Chargers since the 2017 season.

Madeline Jimenez led the way with a pair of first half goals and added an assist on a third to finish the game with five points.  Freshmen Lauren Sullivan, Virginia Perry and junior transfer Rachel Apsley also tallied scores for the Griffins.

Kaitlyn Carter was stellar in goal, making a career-high 14 saves on the night.

Sullivan put Chestnut Hill on the board first in the opening half, converting a penalty shot at the 4:11 mark for a 1-1 lead.  The Chargers scored the equalizer four minutes later as DU's Kaitlyn Zeeb found the back on f net, tying the game at 1-1.

A scramble in front of the net some two minutes later resulted in the Griffins' second goal as Perry came up with a lose ball and kicked it past the Charger 'keeper for a 2-1 lead.  Jimenez struck at the 13:13 mark taking a forward feed from Sullivan and chipping it past the goalkeeper for a 3-1 lead.

Jimenez struck again in the 39th minute, scoring from the right side the field to give the Griffins a three- goal advantage 4-1.  Lizzie Stokes had the assist on the play.

Carter helped keep the Griffins ahead in the half stopping six shots on goal by the Chargers after the Griffins had taken a 2-1 lead in the period.

The junior goalkeeper stopped an additional seven shots in the second half, with the only score by the Chargers coming off a penalty kick in the 73rd minute, providing the final goal of the night for either team.

While Carter and the rest of the Griffins defense were holding the Chargers at bay, the Griffins increased their lead to 5-1 midway through the second on a long goal from the far side of the field by Apsley.

The Chargers outshot the Griffins 24-18 (16-10 on goal) and took seven corner kicks to CHC's three.

The Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team has another key conference matchup ahead of them as they travel to face Holy Family university on Wednesday, September 28.  Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
