A late second half goal by the Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team allowed the Griffins to forge a 1-1 tie with Holy Family University Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Field in Philadelphia.
The game marked the first time the Griffins had won or tied against the Tigers since the 2016 season. As they improve to 4-2-2 overall and 2-1-2 in Central Atlantic collegiate conference games. The Tigers are now 1-4-4 overall and 1-1-3 in league play.
The Griffins lone goal came in the 79
th minute as
Madeline Jimenez took a pass from
Lizzie Stokes and kicked it past HFU goalkeeper Brianna Pudlo to tie the game at 1-1. For Jimenez it was her sixth goal of the season and 30
th of her career, becoming the fourth player in program history to have 30 career goals.
Holy Family upped their tempo following the goal and pushed the pace of play in an effort to earn the win. The Tigers got off six shots in the final ten minutes with two landing on net and saved by Griffin' goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Carter.
Carter, who earned CACC women's soccer goalkeeper of the week honors on Monday, along with the rest of the Griffins defense, held off the onslaught. The junior goalkeeper finished the game with six saves.
Rebecca Dalton was the only other Griffins player besides Jimenez to get multiple shots on goal during the game, tallying three to equal the total by Jimenez.
Lauren Sullivan had the only other shot on goal for the Griffins.
Following a scoreless first half, the Tigers struck first with a goal in the 54
th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Which stood until the Jimenez score in in the 79
th minute. Pudlo had six saves for the Tigers.
The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, October 1, 2022 when they travel to face Felician University in Rutherford, New Jersey. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
