The University of Bridgeport scored three times in the second half as the handed the Chestnut Hill College Men's soccer team their second conference loss, defeating the Griffins 4-2 Saturday afternoon at the CHC Athletic Field on campus.
The Griffins fall to 2-4-1 overall and 1-2 in Central Atlantic collegiate conference games. The Purple Knights improve to 4-4-2 overall and 3-1 in league action.
Bridgeport got three goals from Maximillian Kissel to pace their offense while the Griffins got a pair of goals from
Juan Molina.
Kissel put the Purple knights up 1-0 just five minutes into the game and added his second goal in the 59
th minute to give his team a 2-0 lead. Lapo Romieri made the score 3-0 in the 68
th minute.
Some 80 seconds later, Molina put the Griffins on the board, taking a long cross from
Jimmy Paz and knocking a shot past the UB goalkeeper Hugho Franceschi. Three minutes later Molina added his second goal of the game getting a rebound off the UB keeper and putting the ball behind him after
Juan Ortiz delivered a hard shot on net that was unable to be scooped up by Franceschi, making the score 3-2.
Following Molina's second goal, the Griffins kept up the pressure, but the UB defense kept the home squad from getting a hot off. Meanwhile the Purple Knight offense started to mount their own offensive attack, producing two corner kicks and eventually netting their fourth goal of the game in the 86
th minute as Kissel put in a rebound from a shot that had hit the cross bar, thus rounding out the scoring at 4-2.
Numbers-wise, the two teams were fairly evenly matched as Bridgeport narrowly outshot Chestnut Hill 13-12. Both teams had seven shots on goal and both teams produced three corner kicks.
The Chestnut Hill College Men's Soccer team returns to the pitch with a home game on Wednesday night October 4, 2023, when they host Goldey-Beacom college for their fourth CACC match. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
