The Chestnut Hill College Women's Tennis team honored their seniors Friday afternoon as they took on the defending Central Atlantic collegiate conference champions Wilmington University at the CHC Tennis courts. The Griffins, winners of three of their last four matches had their momentum slowed as the Wildcats recorded a 6-1 victory.
The Griffins fall to 7-4 overall and 5-3 in CACC matches. Wilmington improves to 7-1 overall and boast an identical record in league play. Despite the loss, the Griffins secured the number-three seed for the upcoming CACC Championship Tournament after Post University lost to Jefferson earlier in the day.
Prior to the match, the Griffins honored four seniors who would be playing in one of their final fall matches as Griffins. Honored were
Lottie Allin, Nele Haag, Alison Isaac and Annika Wise. The four players have combined to produce 180 wins in singles and doubles action since arriving at Chestnut Hill. All four have also been just as successful in the classroom, earning ITA Scholar Athlete, CACC All Academic Team and D2ADA Academic Achievement Awards multiple times. Haag was also named the CACC Women's Tennis top XVII award winner for the 2022-23 season. The award is given to the student athlete competing in the conference championship that has the highest grade point average.
Isaac recorded the only point for the Griffins, securing a 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-5) victory at #2 singles over Kushi Khandoji, making the score 4-1 at the time.
Two other singles matches went to a super tiebreaker as
Romi Meirovich dropped a hard-fought match at #6 singles to Larize Nel 6-7 (7-9),6-1, 1-0 (10-3).
Elena Arenas Guisasola also took her opponent into a super tiebreaker at #5 singles, falling to Marley Trifunovic 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6).
The Women's Tennis team returns to action on Monday, October 16 when the face Dominican University at the CHC Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
