Lennon Scores First Collegiate Goal as Griffins Tie Wildcats 1-1

Payton Lennon scored her first collegiate goal as the Chestnut Hill college women's Soccer team forged a 1-1 tie against Wilmington University Tuesday afternoon at the WU Athletic Complex.

The Griffins record now stands at 4-4-2 overall and 3-2-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  The Wildcats are now 7-2-3 overall and 5-1-1 in league play.

Lennon's goal came in the 78th minute, just 17 seconds after Wilmington broke a scoreless tie.  Rebecca Dalton broke the ball loose on the end line and dribbled past a defender, crossing the ball from right side towards Lennon who headed the ball past Wildcat goaltender Mio Nakajima for the equalizer.

Wilmington had two shots on goal in the final 22 minutes, but the Griffins' defense held firm with CHC goalkeeper Ellie Stratz recording the last two of her five saves on the afternoon.

The Griffins finished the game with eight total shots with Lennon's goal being the only shot on goal on the afternoon.  Seven different players had a shot in the game with Rachel Aspley recording a pair of shots in the contest.  Wilmington finished the game with a 16-8 advantage in shots taken (6-1 on target).  The Wildcats also had six corner kicks to CHC's four.

The women's soccer team returns to action on Friday, October 20, 2023, when they host Felician University at Victory Field.  The game is also the team's senior night contest.  The Griffins will recognize the accomplishments of their seniors prior to the game.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
