Elisabeth Stokes' first half goal was all the offense the Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team needed as they turned in their best defensive performance of the season, shutting out Felician University 1-0 Friday night at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill.
The Griffins improve to 5-4-2 overall and 4-2-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games with the win.
Prior to the game, the CHC Athletic Department and women's soccer team recognized and honored four senior player who are playing in their final season as a Griffin. Four year players
Riley Regan and
Molly Killion were honored along with
Rachel Apsley and
Sophia Andreoli both of whom joined the program in 2022 after playing at Lackawanna College.
Stokes broke a scoreless tie in the first half upon receiving a direct forward feed from
Payton Lennon and fired a shot from the left side into the right corner of the net with just one second left in the first half of play.
Chestnut Hill's defense went to work in the second half, limiting the Golden Falcon offense to just two shots (one on target) as Griffins' goalkeeper
Ellie Stratz picked up her first collegiate shutout. Stratz finished the game with two saves.
The Griffins, meanwhile, peppered the Golden Falcon goalkeeper with 12 shots on goal.Â
Rebecca Dalton had five of those while Stokes had four. Â Â Â Chestnut Hill had 20 total shots while Felician had five.
The women's soccer team returns to action on Monday, October 23, 2023, with a home contest against Holy Family University. Â Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
