Griffins Finish Second at CACC Championship Meet

It was a historic day for the Chestnut Hill College Women's Cross Country team as they raced to their best finish ever at the Central Atlantic collegiate conference Championship Meet Sunday morning at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.

The Griffins finished in second place overall with 90 points (also their best score ever in the meet).  Their second place finish tops their previous best finish of third place in the 2018 championship.  Jefferson University won the meet with a score of 39 points.

Chestnut Hill placed three runners in the top ten overall, another first for the Griffins squad with all three earning all-conference honors.  Four of the five Griffins' runners also ran their fastest 5,000-meter time of their career.

Leading the way for the Griffins was Sydney Watts.  Watts finished third overall with a personal-best time of 20:56.31.  Watts also becomes Chestnut Hill's first two-time all-conference honoree, having placed 7th and earning all-conference accolades in 2021.

Aubrey Elias also earned all-conference accolades, placing seventh overall with a personal best time of 21:03.46.  Right behind Elias in eighth place was Gabby Hassler, finishing with a time of 21:17.88.  Hassler also becomes a two-time All-CACC honoree and the first CHC runner to earn All-CACC accolades in back-to-back seasons having finished 13th in last year's championship race.

Rebecca Dalton and DeAnna Otero rounded out the Griffins' finishers.  Dalton was 21st overall with a time of 22:34.83 while Otero was 51st with a time of 28:27.03.  Both runners completed the 5K course with personal best times.

Up next for the Griffins will be the NCAA East Region Championship held in Hopkinton, New Hampshire on November 4, 2023.
