The Chestnut Hill College Men's Soccer team scored two goals in the first 11 minutes of the game before Holy Family University rallied with a pair of goals to even the score as the two teams played to a 2-2 tie at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill Tuesday night.
The Griffins are now 4-7-2 overall and 3-5-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Tigers are 3-4-2 in league play and 5-6-3 overall.
Prior to the game, the CHC Athletic Department and Men's Soccer team recognized and honored six senior players who are playing in their final season as a Griffin. Four year players
Diego Cabrera, Adam Manfaa and David Cortez were honored along with
Juan Ortiz, Eran Shifris and Jorge Mendez who joined the program in 2022.
Abdoulaye Kamagate got the Griffins on the board early with his seventh goal of the season at the 6:31 mark. The Griffins drove down the right side of the field where Kamagate received a pass from Ortiz and put the ball into the net at the 6:31 mark for a 1-0 lead.
Four minutes later Cortez put the Griffins ahead 2-0 with his fourth goal of the season.
A long free kick by HFU's Hunter Bell put the Tigers on the board. The score remained 2-1 until the Tigers scored in the 38
th minute with
Conor Seeley scoring the goal following a corner kick.
The Griffins got off 11 shots in the second half, four of which were on target, but were unable to produce a go-ahead goal. Holy Family got off six shots, but none were on target in the period as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
For the game, the Griffins held an 18-11 advantage in shots (7-3 on target) and had a 5-4 margin for corner kicks.
The men's soccer team returns to action on Saturday October 28, 2023, with a game at Dominican University. Kickoff is set for 12 noon.
