Late Goal from Ortiz gives Griffins a Tie with Chargers

A late goal from Juan Ortiz in the second half allowed the Chestnut Hill college men's soccer team to forge a 2-2 tie with Dominican University Saturday afternoon at O'Brien field in Orangeburg, New York.

The Griffins are now 4-7-3 overall and 3-5-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  Dominican is 3-6-1 in league games and 3-12-1 overall.

Trailing 2-1 entering the final ten minutes of play, the Griffins brought the ball up on offense with Jimmy Paz receiving it on the right side…Paz shook a defender and passed it to Ortiz in the middle of the box.  Ortiz put the ball in the net to the right of DU goalkeeper David Arteaga with the tying goal, his eighth goal of the season.

Malik Pamer had an unassisted goal at the 22:1` mark to tie the game at 1-1.

Guilherme Pirana scored both goals for the Chargers, the first at the 10:28 mark and the second in the 74th minute.

Griffins' goalkeepers Eran Shifris and Abdoulaye Kamagate allowed one goal apiece and made three saves apiece.   Arteaga had two saves for the Chargers.

The Chargers had twice as many shots on goal (8-4) as the Griffins and held a 20-17 advantage in total shots.  Oritz (six shots) and Pirana (eight shots) were each team's respective leaders in that category.

The men's soccer team will close out their regular season on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, with a match in Lakewood, New Jersey against Georgian Court University.   Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
