Four straight goals from Dominican University erased a 2-0 Chestnut Hill College lead as the Chargers defeated the Griffins 4-2 in women's soccer action at O'Brien field in Orangeburg, New York Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins fall to 5-6-2 overall and 4-4-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Chargers improve to 4-4-3 in league games and 5-6-3 overall.
Elisabeth Stokes scored both goals for the Griffins, her fourth and fifth goals on the season. Stokes opened the scoring right away, taking a pass from
Antonia Linus for the score just 52 seconds into the game.    She added an unassisted goal at the 25:11 mark, making the score 2-0.
The Chargers cut the lead in half with a goal by Olivia Gouldsbury at the 33:30 mark. The Griffins held on to a 2-1 lead at halftime.
Dominican answered with three goals in the second half to come away with the victory. DU's Stella Koster had seven shots for the goal and had a goal and an assist. Sabrine Sorenson had a goal and three assists.
The backup goalkeepers for both teams took the decision in the contest with
Sophia Andreoli getting the loss (0-1) after entering the game five minutes into the second half after an injury to starterÂ
Ellie Stratz. Andreoli had two saves. Stratz also made two saves on the afternoon.  Lauren Drummond had seven saves for the Chargers after entering the game at the 11:21 mark of the first half, allowing only one goal.
The Griffins had a slight 9-8 edge on shots on goal and corner kicks (3-2) while the Chargers had more total shots (20-15).
The women's soccer team returns to action on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, when they face Georgian Court University in Lakewood, New Jersey. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
