Georgian Court University scored twice in the final ten minutes of action as they handed the Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team a 2-0 loss Tuesday afternoon in Lakewood, New Jersey.
Despite the loss, the Griffins did clinch one of the final two playoff spots for the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate conference Championship Tournament by virtue of a loss from Goldey-Beacom College. Chestnut Hill has a 4-5-1 conference record and is 5-7-2 overall. The Lions clinched the other playoff spot with the win, improving to 5-6-6 overall and 4-2-5 in league play.  The Griffins will be either the #7 or #8 seed depending upon the outcome of their final match Thursday at Jefferson University.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie after the first half and the game remained scoreless as both teams managed to exchange shots as the second half wore on.  The Lions got their first goal in the 81
st minute from Bridgette King, following a flurry of attempts and added another goal in the 89
th minute from Abby Kennelly for the 2-0 final score.
The Lions outshot the Griffins 10-8 (8-4 on target).Â
Elisabeth Stokes and
Lauren Sullivan had three shots apiece with the two players both recording a shot on goal.Â
Molly Killion and
Rebecca Dalton had Chestnut Hill's other shots on goal.
Sophia Andreoli, making her first start in net for the Griffins, recorded six saves in the losing effort. GCU goalkeeper Carley Polchak had four saves.
The women's soccer team will close out the regular season when they travel to face Jefferson University on Thursday, November 2, 2023. Kickoff will be at 2:30 p.m.
