Rebecca Dalton scored the only goal for the Chestnut Hill college women's soccer team as they dropped their regular season finale at Jefferson university 3-01 Thursday afternoon at TJU's Ravenhill Field.
The Griffins finish the regular season at 5-8-2 overall and 4-6-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action. Chestnut Hill has qualified for the CACC Championship Tournament for the second consecutive year and will be the #8 seed heading into post-season play.
Jefferson will be the #1 seed in the conference tournament and the Griffins' opponent for the quarterfinals. The Rams improve to 12-3-2 overall and 10-0-1 in league play with the win.
Trailing 2-0 heading into the second half Dalton got the Griffins on the board in the 72
nd minute, taking a pass from
Rachel Apsley from the near corner side and heading the ball of the Jefferson goalkeeper's head to make the score 2-1.
The Rams added a goal in the 76
th minute to make the final score 3-1.
Sophia Andreoli took the loss in net for Chestnut Hill, allowing two first period goals. Liv Riddel earned the win in net for Jefferson, stopping five CHC shots on the afternoon.
For the game, the Griffins outshot the Rams 9-8 while doubling up their opponent 6-3 with shots on goal. Dalton and Apsley had two shots on goal apiece while
Lauren Sullivan and
Antonia Linus each had one.
The women's soccer team opens post-season play on Sunday November 5, 2023 with the CACC Quarterfinal round, taking on top-seed Jefferson University at 1:00 p.m. at Ravenhill Field.
