Griffins Drop contest at Millersville

Millersville University pulled away late in the first half as they handed the Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team a 70-57 loss Saturday afternoon at Pucillo Gym in Millersville, Pennsylvania.

The Griffins drop to 0-4 on the season.  Millersville improves to 3-1.

Chestnut Hill placed three players in double figures scoring wise with Alejandro Redondo Cybak leading the way with 16 points (-8 FT).  Adam Angwafo and 13 points while Noah Charles had ten (5-6 FG).  Neal Hill led the team with eight rebounds.

Angwafo's three-point basket at the 14:32 mark of the first half gave the Griffins their first lead of the game at 7-6.  The Marauders followed with a 14-3 uprising to take a double-digit lead 20-10 midway through the half.  Chestnut Hill fought back with a 9-3 spurt, getting another three-ball from Angwafo and baskets from Argel Pettit IV, Kamal Lee and Cybak, closing the gap to 22-19 with 5:18 left.  The Griffins did not score the remainder of the half as the Marauders defense forced four turnovers and six missed shots in the final five minutes, while outscoring CHC 11-0 to take a 33-19 lead at halftime.

The Marauders scored the first four points of the second half, extending the run to 15 straight points and taking their biggest lead of the game at 37-19.  Millersville's lead remained in double digits the rest of the way, oscillating between 13 and 18 points, with the Griffins cutting the lead to 13 five times over the final seven minutes.

For the game the Griffins shot 42.9% from the field (21-49) while the Marauders were slightly better at 46.2% (24-52).  Neither team was exceptional beyond the arc (CHC 4-14, MU 5-13).  Millersville made 17 of 22 free throws (77.3%).  Chestnut Hill shot just 12 free throws, but made all but one (11-12, 91.7%).  Millersville had a 32-28 rebounding advantage (9-4 on the offensive glass) and committed five fewer turnovers (12-17).

The men's basketball team returns to action on Monday, November 20, 2023, when they hold their home opener against Shippensburg University.  Tipoff at Sorgenti arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
