Kaitlyn Carter recorded her first double-double of the season as the Chestnut Hill College women's Basketball team held off a late rally from host Bloomsburg University to defeat the Huskies 62-58 at the E.H. Nelson Fieldhouse in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins improve to 2-2 with the win while the Huskies fall to 1-3.
Carter was the lone Chestnut Hill player in double figures with 14 points (6-13 FG). The senior guard also grabbed ten rebounds while recording three steals and three assists. Â
Emily Sekerak had nine points (4-9 FG) and six rebounds.Â

Bridie McCann had eight points apiece.
McCann opened the fourth quarter giving the Griffins a ten point lead 54-44.  Bloomsburg followed with a 13-2 run to take their first lead since the second quarter, 57-56 with 3:08 left. Carter put the Griffins back on top with a driving layup with 2:46 and
Caleigh Edwards (six points) scored on her own driving layup with one minute left to give the Griffins a three point lead. A free throw from the Huskies closed the gap to 60-58 with 15 seconds left. Following a timeout, the Griffins inbounded the ball in front of their own bench.Â
Lindsey Lane (six points, six rebounds) broke towards the basket and Carter found her for a wide open uncontested layup and a four point lead. Lane also grabbed the final rebound on a missed three-pointer from the Huskies to end the game.
The Griffins also led by ten points three times in the third quarter, the last at 51-41 with three minutes left.
In the first half, neither team led by more than two possessions at any given point.
Caraline Herb's two three pointers broke a 12-12 tie in the first quarter and gave the Griffins a four point lead, 20-14. The Huskies scored eight straight points to lead 24-20 a minute into the third quarter when two baskets from
Bri Rider, a short jumper in the paint and a three-point basket put the Griffins back on top 25-24. The lead changed hands four more times before a 7-0 run by the Griffins put them ahead until the late fourth quarter rally by the Huskies.
Both teams made 24 field goals in the contest with the Griffins however, making six three-pointers (6-12, 50%) to three for the Huskies (3-13, 23.1%). Chestnut Hill had a 35-32 rebounding advantage (11-8 on the offensive glass) and both teams committed 14 turnovers.
The women's basketball team is back in action on Monday, November 20, 2023, with a game at nationally ranked West Chester University.  Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
