Comeback against Lions Falls Short as Georgian Court Defeats Griffins 3-2

A comeback effort from the Chestnut Hill College Women's Volleyball team fell short as Georgian Court University snapped the Griffins' five-game winning streak with a 3-2 win Wednesday night at the GCU Wellness Center in Lakewood, New Jersey.

The Griffins fall to 12-13 overall and 10-5 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  The Lions improve to 14-11 overall and 8-7 in league play.

The Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a 25-22 win in the first set and a 25-17 win in the second.  The Griffins came back with a dominant 25-12 win in the third set and evened the match with a 25-23 win in the fourth set.  Georgian court jumped out to an early lead in the deciding set and never looked back as they pulled away to win the set, 15-9 and the match 3-2.

Rachel Mace led all players with 19 kills on the night while Erika Dubosky and Cha'kya Johnson added 11 and ten kills respectively.  Angela April finished with nine kills.

Torrin Kelley led all players with four service aces.  Mia Caporellie led the team with 43 assists.

On the defensive side, Natalie Albin again led Chestnut Hill with 18 digs.  Dubosky added 16 while Mace and Caporellie had 11 and ten respectively.  Dubosky, Mace and Caporellie all finished with double-doubles on the night.

Comparing team stats, the Griffins held a 56-45 advantage in kills but also committed 14 more attack errors than the Lions (17-31) while hitting .153 (56-31-163).  The Lions hit .189 (45-17-148).  Georgian court also took advantage of their strong blocking game recording 14.5 team blocks while the Griffins had just three on the night.

The women's volleyball team returns to action on Saturday, November 11, 2023, when they host Dominican University for their final regular season home contest.  The game has also been designated as the Griffins' senior day game.  Tipoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
