Griffins Drop Road Contest to Vulcans

The Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team concluded their western Pennsylvania road trip with a tough loss against California university of Pennsylvania Sunday afternoon at CalU's Hamer Hall, falling to the Vulcans 89-50.

Neal Hill led the Griffins with 16 points and five rebounds.  Lucas Dunn also added five rebounds on the afternoon.

Chestnut Hill kept the game within striking distance in the early portion of the first half until a 13-0 run by the Vulcans gave the hosts a double digit lead.  Two free throws from Dylan Majors broke the run and pulled the Griffins within 12 with 9:14 left before the Vulcans exploded with a 20-7 spurt to close out the half with a 45-20 lead.

The Vulcans shot 60% (15-25) in the first half including a 5-9 effort from beyond the arc while holding the Griffins to just seven field goals in the period.

California continued to expand their lead as the second half progressed continued their shooting efficiency with a 60.7% shooting effort in the second half.  The Griffins finished on a strong note, outscoring the Vulcans 11-2 in the final 3:35.  Kamal Lee and Donald-James Imo combined for seven of the Griffins' final 11 points.

The Griffins fall to 1-9 with the loss.  The Vulcans, ranked #24 in most recent NABC coaches poll improve to 7-0.

The men's basketball team will return to action on Tuesday, December 19 when they travel to Long Island to take on Molloy University.  Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
