Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Team Close out December with Loss to Panthers

The Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team closed out 2023 with their penultimate non-conference game of the season, falling at Adelphi University 93-71 Saturday afternoon in Garden city, New York.

Five players scored in double figures for the Griffins and the team produced their highest shooting percentage of the season (48.2%), but it was not enough to overcome a 78.6% shooting effort by the Panthers in the first half which led to the hosts shooting 62.5% overall for the game.

Donald-James Imo led the Griffins with 18 points while Lucas Dunn added 14 and had CHC's best shooting effort of the afternoon, making six of seven shots from the field, including a pair of three point baskets.  Argel Pettit IV added 12 points while Neal Hill and Kamal Lee chipped in 11 and ten, respectively.

Hill narrowly missed a double-double for the second consecutive game, grabbing nine rebounds to go along with his 11 points.  Dunn led the team with four assists while Imo and Lee had two steals apiece.

The Panthers forged a double digit lead just seven minutes into the contest, making nine of their first ten shots from the field to take a 21-10 lead, and increased their lead to 18, 31-13 with three more baskets, extending their shooting effort to 12 field goals in their first 13 shots.  Adelphi increased their lead to as many as 33 before Pettit scored the final four points of the half, making the score 59-30 at the break.

Adelphi had connected on 22 of 28 shots taken in the half (78.6%) including an 8-for-11 effort from three-point range to help produce their big lead.

The Adelphi lead oscillated between 27 and 32 points for the first ten minutes of the second half until back-to-back baskets from Dunn cut the deficit to 23 78-55 with 8:33 left.  The Panther lead remained within a 23-27 point margin until the final two minutes of play when a pair of free throws from Lee and a traditional three-point play from Marshall Baker brought the lead down to 19 with 1:10 left.  Adelphi added a three-point basket in the final minute to round out the scoring.

Former Griffins player Conor Regan led the Panthers with 19 points, shooting a perfect 7-7 from the field and 3-3 from the free throw line.

The Griffins shot nearly 60% in the second half (16-27) to finish the game shooting 48.2% for full 40 minutes.  Adelphi finished shooting 62.5% (35-56).

The men's basketball team returns to action on January 3, 2024, when they travel to face Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, Delaware.  Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m.
