The Chestnut Hill College Women's Lacrosse team opened their 2023 season Saturday afternoon at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania, hosting Southern Connecticut State University. The Owls came away with a 17-1 win.
The Griffins fall to 0-1 while the Owls improve to 1-0.
Danielle Vassallo scored the lone goal for the Griffins who produced seven shots on goal for the day. Vassallo had two of the seven while
Molly Killion led the team with three.
Madyson Schwartz had the other two.
On the defensive side, goalkeeper
Mel Amador made 18 saves while
Abigail Galazka led the team with two caused turnovers. Vassallo and
Angel Hines had three ground balls apiece.
Ten different Owl players scored goals on the afternoon with Kirsten McIntyre and Sarah Robbins leading the way with three goals apiece. Goalkeeper Caelan Connors had six saves.
Vassallo's goal came late in the game with just under minute remaining in the fourth quarter. The goal came with the Griffins holding a man-up advantage.
SCSU scored six times in the first quarter and added four more in the second. SCSU added four more in the third quarter and three in the fourth.
The women's lacrosse team is back in action on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, with a game at Saint Thomas Aquinas college. First draw is set for 2:30 p.m.
