The Chestnut Hill College Men's Tennis team kicked off their championship segment of their season Friday afternoon with a 5-2 win over Division I Loyola University of Maryland Friday afternoon at the CHC Tennis Courts.
The Griffins improve to 4-1 on the season while The Greyhounds fall to 1-2.
CHC took two of the three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead via the doubles point.Â
Tom Pitchley and
Noah Cutting earned a 6-2 win over Matt Cardano and George Cavo at #1 doubles while
Tiago Lima and
Joao Sousa were 6-4 winners at #2 doubles, defeating Oliver Davey and Ryan Boland.
Moving onto singles, Loyola tied the match as Cardano scored a win over Cutting at #1 singles. Pitchley put the Griffins back in from with a 7-5, 6-7 (5-7) 1-0 (10-4) win at #2 singles over Cavo.   Lima gave the Griffins a 3-1 lead, defeating Davey 6-3, 7-5 and #3 singles while Sousa clinched the match for the Griffins with a 1-6, 6-2 1-0 (10-6) win over Nick Lawless at #4 singles.Â
Antonio Franquis earned the final point for the Griffins with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Dylan Koziol at #5 singles.
The Men's tennis team remains at home for their next match, a division II contest with Bloomsburg University on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at noon. The Griffins defeated the Huskies 6-1 at Bloomsburg back in September.
