Game Recap: Softball |

Millersville Sweeps Griffins

The Chestnut Hill College women's softball team faced a red-hot Millersville University squad Monday afternoon for a regional doubleheader at the CHC Softball field.  The Marauders produced 28 runs in the two games as the Griffins lost the opener 17-0 and followed with an 11-0 loss in the nightcap.

The Griffins fall to 0-4 on the season while The Marauders improve to 5-1.

Millersville's Alex Schaefer and Kendra Bumgardner combined to pitch a five inning no-hitter against the Griffins in the opening game with just two runners reaching base, one on an error and the second on a walk.

Seven extra base hits in the first two innings by the Marauders along with four Griffin errors led to all 17 MU runs. Jordan Tavarez took the loss.

In game two, the Griffins loaded the bases in the first inning with hits from Mianna Lopez Del Haro and Skyler Cunningham but were unable to push a run across the plate.  Maya Kemper got the Griffins third hit in the second inning before Millersville exploded for eight runs in the third inning.  Cunningham had her second hit of the game in the third inning and Samantha Toro singled to start the fifth inning but was later retired on a double play to end the game.

Gabriella Quinones took the loss in game two.

The women's softball team will begin their spring break trip south as the weekend approaches.  CHC will play at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina on Saturday March 4, 2023.
