The Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team saw its season come to an end as Dominican University handed the Griffins a 79-69 loss in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Quarterfinals Tuesday Night in Orangeburg, New York.
The Griffins finish their season at 19-10 while Dominican improves to 19-10.
Emily Chmiel led the Griffins with 18 points (7-11 FG, 4-4 FT) while
Morgan Orloski knocked down 17 (6-11 FG, 2-5 3FG).Â
Siobhan Boylan came off the bench to join Chmiel and Orloski in double figures with 14 points (6-10 FG).Â
Leah Miller led the team with eight rebounds while
Abbey Spratt dished out four assists.
The Chargers jumped out ot a 17-16 lead in the first quarter as the Griffins were forced to play from behind for most of the game. Leading 20-12 at the end of the first quarter, DU opened the second period with a 12-6 spurt to take a 14-point lead 32-18 with 6:37 left. Chestnut Hill then exploded with 15 straight points to take their first lead of the game 33-32 with just 1:12 left in the half. Chmiel, Orloski and
Kaitlyn Carter had four points apiece during the run and Spratt nailed a three-point basket to round out the scoring. The Chargers scored the final five points to lead 37-33 at the half.
Dominican increased their lead to as many as ten in the third quarter only to see the Griffins get back in the game with a 14-6 run to close out the quarter and trail by two 55-53.  In the fourth quarter Dominican's lead oscillated between three and five points for much of the final period, with the Chargers leading by three 67-64 with 1:41 left.  With the Griffins forced to foul, the Chargers took full advantage making 11 of 12 free throws over the final 1:15. The only offense the Griffins could muster was a three pointer from Boylan with 31 seconds left and a layup from
Avery White with five seconds left with the Chargers hanging on for the ten point win.
Tanisha Mills and Kristen Teklits led the Chargers with 22 and 21 points respectively. Alexis Suarez and Cayla Howard added 12 apiece.
Both teams shot exceptionally well with the Griffins making 48.2% (27-56) of their shots while the Chargers made 26 of 55 (47.3%) of their shots from the field. Â The Chargers outscored the Griffins on the free throw line 19-9 and took advantage of 19 CHC turnovers.
