Clarion University snapped the Chestnut Hill college Baseball team's three-game win streak Saturday afternoon, defeating the Griffins 8-3 in their final game at Fleming Stadium in Wilson North Carolina.
The Griffins' record drops to 4-10 while the Golden Eagles improve to 4-10.
Mike Kiefer (0-3) took the loss for the Griffins allowing five runs on seven hits in 5+ innings of work. Kiefer struck out four batters. Reilly Shafer earned the win for the Golden Eagles, allowing three runs on five hits in eight innings of work, striking out seven Griffin batters.
Among the Griffins' five hits were a two-run home run by
Ahmaad Goldson and a double from
RJ Huth.
Eli Meredith singled to open the game  and scored three batters later on Goldson's blast to right field, giving the Griffins an early 2-0 lead.Â
The Golden Eagles got a run back in the bottom of the first before the Griffins took advantage of an infield error in the third inning with runners at the corners. The error allowed
Nate O'Donnell to score from third with CHC's third run of the game and take a 3-1 lead.
Clarion closed within one, 3-2 in the bottom of the third and took a 5-3 lead in the sixth when their first three batters all reached base and later scored ending Kiefer's day on the mound. CU tacked on three more unearned runs in the eighth inning to make the score 8-3.
In the Griffins' final at-bat, the team went down in order to give the Golden Eagles the win.
The Chestnut Hill College Baseball team is back in action on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 for their Hostelley Field home opener against Bloomsburg University. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1:00 p.m.
