The Chestnut Hill College Men's tennis team got back on the winning track Thursday afternoon, defeating host Millersville University 6-1 at MU's McComsey Courts.
The Griffins improve to 6-3 overall with the win. The Marauders fall to 1-6.
Chestnut Hill started the match with a clean sweep of the three doubles contests to capture the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead.Â
Tiago Lima and
Joao Sousa started things off with a 6-1 win at #3 doubles and
Antonio Franquis and
Pedro Vicente followed with a 6-3 win at #2 doubles. The #1 doubles match was the closest of the three, with
Tom Pitchley and
Noah Cutting defeating Dylan Tull and Lino Morin 7-6 (10-1).
Pitchley gave the Griffins a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 2-6 , 6-1 win at #2 singles over Shaurya Piplani. Millersville followed with a win at #3 singles before Cutting gave the Griffins a commanding 3-1 lead with a 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2 win over Tull at #1 singles.
Chestnut Hill swept the remaining three singles matches with Sousa earning a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win at #4 singles over Zach Pernia; Franquis a 6-2, 6-1 win at #5 singles over Jasper DeKoning and Vicente a 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) win at #6 singles over Yash Kothari.Â
The men's tennis team is back in action on Saturday March 18, 2023 with a match at Division I Bucknell University. First serve is at 2:00 p.m.
