East Stroudsburg Takes Two from Griffins

Kayla Rolon hit safely in both games as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Softball team dropped both ends of a non-league doubleheader Thursday afternoon at East Stroudsburg University, losing 7-1 and 9-1.

Rolon had two of the Griffins' four hits in game two (a triple and a single) and started the day with a single in the opener.  With her three hits, Rolon is now tied with Skyler Cunningham for the team lead with seven.  Cunningham also had a hit in the first game as did Lucianna Boggi who laced a double.  Peyton Baldwin and Samantha Toro had singles in the nightcap in addition to Rolon's two hits.

In the opener, Gabriella Quinones (0-4) pitched a complete game, giving up seven runs (five earned) on nine hits while striking out three.
East Stroudsburg scored all the runs they would need in their first two at-bats, plating five runs on five hits to take a 5-0 lead.   The Warriors added two unearned runs in the fourth inning to take as 7-1 lead.

Boggi laced a double to right center field with one out in the fifth inning and later scored on an infield error for the Griffins' lone run of the game.

In game two Abbie Alt-Ambriz (0-4) allowed seven runs (three earned) in 3.2 innings while letting up nine hits and striking out two.  Jordan Tavarez pitched the final 1.2 innings giving up two runs on two hits.

The Warriors jumped out to a 7-0 lead after four innings, scoring once in the second, twice in the third and taking advantage of two Griffin errors in the fourth to plate four unearned runs.

The Griffins got on the board in the sixth inning with Toro delivering a one out single.  She was replaced on the basepaths by Steph Tonuci who reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second.  Tonuci later scored no an outfield error, cutting ESU's lead to 7-1.

ESU put two runners in scoring position with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Warriors' Molly Nies delivered a single to right field, plating both runners and ending the game via the eight run rule, 9-1.

The women's softball team returns to action on Saturday, March 18, 2022 when they travel south to take on Bowie State University.  First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1:00 p.m.
