Griffins Win First Match at CACC Championships, Defeating Bloomfield 2-0

Competing in the inaugural Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Bowling Championships, the Chestnut Hill Women's Bowling team, holding the #2 seed, defeated #3 seed Bloomfield College 2-0 Friday afternoon at Our Town Alley in East Norriton, Pennsylvania to advance into the winners bracket game on Saturday.  

The Griffins won the traditional format part of the match, recording their highest score of the season as the cruised to a 1,024-933 win.  Their 1,024 score was also the highest score of the day (traditional or baker format) among the six teams competing.  It was also Chestnut Hill's highest traditional score since a 1,059 effort in November 2019 against Daemen College.

In the Baker format portion of the match, the Griffins trailed after the first two games and led by just five pins heading into the final game of the match, where they pulled away to win the match 868-841 to advance to Saturday's winners bracket match.

Maddie Gannon, the CACC Bowler of the Year, led the way in both matches, rolling a team-high 244 and filling all ten frames.  Gannon also filled all ten frames in the Baker format to finish the day with a perfect 100% overall frame fill percentage (20/20).  Gannon had nine strikes (out of 12) in the traditional match, including her last five shots and added nine more strikes (out of 16- as the anchor bowler) in the Baker format to finish the day, striking on 64.3% of her shots.

Kayleina McGonigal bowled a 216 in the traditional portion of the match, filling all ten frames bowled.  The freshman bowler also filled eight of ten frames in baker format play to finish with a 90% overall fill frame percentage.   McGonigal also recorded strikes on 52.3% of her shots in both matches.

Eryn Moore had seven strikes and filled nine of ten frames in the traditional match, finishing with a score of 210.  She added three more strikes and filled five frames in the Baker format match to finish the day with an overall frame fill percentage of 70%.

Hope Widmer filled eight of ten frames in the traditional match and finished with a score of 191.  Widmer recorded seven total strikes in the two matches.  Jess Hollabaugh finished the traditional match with a score of 163, filling eight frames in the process.  Hollabaugh filled six more frames in the Baker format match.

The Griffins will now face #4 seed Caldwell University who defeated Felician University 2-0 and top seed Wilmington University 2-0 to advance to Saturday's winner's bracket match.  The match is set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
