Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Team Swept by Rollins

The Chestnut Hill College Women's Softball team continued their spring trip on Monday, taking on Rollins College in winter Park Florida.  The Tars won the first game 8-0 and completed the sweep with a 3-0 win in game two.

The Griffins fall to 0-8 on the season while the Tars improve to 9-9.

CHC had two hits in game two, doubling their total from the first game.  Jordan Tavarez (0-3) took the loss, pitching four innings of three-hit ball while allowing two runs and striking out two.  Abbie Alt-Ambriz pitched the last two innings, allowing just two hits and one run.

Samantha Toro got the Griffins first hit in the third inning, a two-out single.  Toro was then retired on a fielder's choice to end the inning.  Steph Tonuci also had a two out single in the sixth inning.

RC's Jaden Walker hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the second, providing the Tars with all the offense they would need.  Rollins added an insurance run on an infield groundout in the fifth.

In the opener, Erin McCarthy (0-2) took the loss, giving up four runs on two hits in 0.2 innings pitched.  Gabriella Quinones finished the games, tossing 4.1 innings and giving up four runs on nine hits while striking out three.

The Griffins lone hit of the game came in the first inning as Tonuci led off with an infield single, was sacrificed to second by Peyton Baldwin and advanced as the Griffins loaded the bases when Kayla Rolon walked, and Anastasia Watson was hit by a pitch.  Chestnut Hill left the bases loaded as their next two hitters were retired via a strikeout and a groundout.

Rollins put up four runs in the bottom of the first, chasing McCarthy and bringing in Quinones to throw.

The Tars put up solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-0 lead as Rollins pitcher Emily McMullen (4-6) did not allow a baserunner until the sixth inning.

Tonuci was hit by a pitch to lead off the sixth, moved to second on an infield out and later stole third base with two outs, her team leading third steal of the young season, before again being stranded just 60 feet from scoring.

Rollins put their first two runners on in the sixth and moved both into scoring position when RC's Taylor Waters delivered a double to left center field to plate both runners and end the game via the eight-run rule.

Waters had three hits and drove in four runs to pace the Tars in game one.

The women's softball team resumes play on Tuesday when they face #23 Saint Leo University.
