Softball Swept by Spartans

The Chestnut Hill College women's softball team faced another nationally ranked team on Wednesday as they continued their spring trip, as the University of Tampa swept the Griffins 17-0 and 8-0  at Naimoli Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

The undefeated Spartans, ranked #3 in the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II poll, improved to 15-0.  The Griffins dropped to 0-12.

Tampa's Gwen McGinnis tossed a five inning perfect game against the Griffins in the opener, retiring all 15 batters she faced.  McGinnis struck out six CHC batters in the win. 

The Spartan offense scored four times in each of the first two innings and tacked on seven more runs in the third and two in the fourth,  en route to the 17-0 win.  Tampa recorded 19 hits for the game, with five going for extra bases.

Jordan Tavarez (0-4) took the loss for the Griffins.

Peyton Baldwin and Skyler Cunningham had its for the Griffins in the second game as the Spartans won 8-0. Baldwin had a single in the first inning while Cunningham laced her hit in the second.

Erin McCarthy (0-4) started and took the loss for the Griffins.

The women's softball team completes their spring trip on Thursday, March 9, 2023 with a doubleheader against Eckerd College.
