The Chestnut Hill College women's softball team concluded their spring trip on Thursday, losing their final two games to Eckerd College, 9-1 and 10-2 in Saint Petersburg, Florida.
Â
Kayla Rolon drove in both runs in game two while
Lucianna Boggi had two of the Griffins' five hits in the loss.Â
Abbie Alt-Ambriz (0-3) started and pitched four innings, giving up seven runs on nine hits with two strikeouts to take the loss.
Eckerd scored once in the first and twice in the second to take a 3-0 lead. In the third
Samantha Toro and
Steph Tonuci both had one-out singles and were moved into scoring position on a sac bunt from
Peyton Baldwin. Rolon then hit a 3-2 pitch into center field that landed for a double plating Toro and Tonuci and cutting the lead to 3-2. Boggi added her second hit of the game and the Griffins fifth and final hit in the fourth inning. Tonuci was the Griffins' only other baserunner after that, drawing a walk in the fifth inning.Â
Eckerd scored two runs in the third and two more in the fourth and closed out the game with three runs in the sixth inning.
Rolon also drove in the only Griffins run in the opener with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. The sac fly plated Tonuci who singled and stole second earlier in the inning. Tonuci's single was one of just three Griffin hits.
Anastasia Watson and
Jazmine Ramirez had the other two hits, both singles.
A five run first by Eckerd and an additional run in the second was all the offense the hosts needed as they cruised to the 9-1 five-inning win.Â
Gabriella Quinones (0-3) took the loss, pitching a complete game effort.
The Griffins are now 0-14 on the season while Eckerd improves to 11-9.
The women's softball team returns to action back up north on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, when they travel to face Shippensburg University. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.  Â
