The Chestnut Hill College Men's Tennis team won five of their six singles matches as they cruised to a 6-1 win over University of the District of Columbia Thursday afternoon in Washington, D.C.
The Griffins improve to 5-2 on the season while the Firebirds fall to 1-6
Chestnut Hill opened the match by sweeping all three doubles contests to capture the doubles point.Â
Tom Pitchley and
Noah Cutting were 6-1 victors over Louis Mangeon and Mauricio Corty sosa at #1 doubles while
Joao Sousa and
Pedro Vicente defeated Jake Bedforth and Oskar Karos 6-2 clinching the doubles point for CHC.Â
Antonio Franquis and
Tiago Lima completed the sweep with a 6-2 win over Antonio Simo Durall and Juan Estevez Hernadez.
Vicente made his Chestnut Hill debut in the doubles match and went on to complete a 2-0 day with a win at #6 singles.
Pitchley put the Griffins up 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 straight set win over Corty Sosa at #2 singles and Franquis made it 3-0i CHC's favor, defeating Karos at #5 singles 6-3, 6-0.
The Firebirds then scored their only point with a win at #3 singles before Sousa clinched the match with the Griffins' fourth point, defeating Estevez Hernandez 6-2, 6-4 at #4 singles, becoming the third Griffin to complete a 2-0 day with wins in both doubles and singles.
Cutting completed his 2-0 day with a with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Mangeon at #1 singles and Vicente rounded out the scoring with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Bedforth at #6 singles.
The Men's Tennis team returns to action on Wednesday March 15, 2023 with a match at Queens College in New York.
