Boggi's Clutch Hit gives Griffins a Doubleheader Split with Golden Falcons

Lucianna Boggi's pinch hit bases clearing triple capped off a six-run fifth inning as the Chestnut Hill college women's Softball team rallied from a 4-1 deficit to defeat Felician University 7-5  in game two of their doubleheader at the CHC softball field Friday afternoon.

The win salvaged a split of their two games with the Golden Falcons as Felician won the opener 9-0 in five innings.  With the split, the Griffins are now 6-31 overall and 3-11 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  Felician's record is now 25-16 overall and 13-7 in CACC contests.

Trailing 4-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, the Griffins started their rally with a one-out single  by Mianna Lopez del HaroSamantha Toro was hit by a pitch and Steph Tonuci followed with a double that went all the way to the center field fence, plating both runners.  Skyler Cunningham then singled as Tonuci scored the tying run. Kayla Rolon reached on an error and Peyton Baldwin singled to load the bases with still only one out.  After new golden Falcon pitcher, Mikayla Brown got a quick popout for the second out,  Boggi entered as a pinch hitter and lifted a ball down the right field line that fell in and got by a diving Felician outfielder, scoring all three runners as Boggi hustled her way to third base, giving the Griffins a 7-4 lead.

An infield error by the Griffins in the sixth led to the fifth Golden Falcon run.  CHC pitcher Gabriella Quinones allowed two hits in the seventh but left both runners stranded as she induced a fly ball out to end the game.

Back-to-back extra base hits hits had produced the first run for the Griffins in the nightcap, as Toro tripled to right center field with two-out and easily scored on a Tonuci double to left center. field

Quinones (3-8) earned the complete game win, striking out two.  Tonuci had three hits (two doubles and a single) , three RBI and a stolen base.     Toro scored two runs and also had a triple.

In the opener, Felician's riley Williams faced just two batters above the minimum as she pitched a five inning no hitter.  Williams walked one batter and hit another while striking out six.

The Golden Falcons scored eight runs in the fourth inning and added a run in the fifth to complete their shutout.

The women's softball team returns to action on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, with a doubleheader at Jefferson University.
