Rams Sweep Doubleheader from Griffins

The Chestnut Hill College Softball team dropped both games of their doubleheader against local rival Jefferson University Tuesday afternoon, losing the opener 9-1 before the Rams took the second game 10-3 to complete the sweep.

Chestnut Hill is now 6-33 overall and 3-13 in Central Atlantic Collegiate conference games.  Jefferson's record in now 7-11 in league play and 13-19 overall.

Skyler Cunningham drove in the Griffins' only run of the first game with an RBI single in the first inning.  CHC also got hits from Samantha Toro and Peyton Baldwin.   Jordan Tavarez took the loss allowing all nine runs (six earned), pitching to all but two batters in the five-inning loss.

Jefferson took control of the game in their first at-bat, scoring four runs (three unearned) to take a 4-1 lead.  The Rams added five more in the fifth to invoke the eight-run mercy rule.

In game two, Jefferson scored four times in the first off CHC starter Gabriella Quinones and added two more in third inning to take a 6-0 lead before the Griffins got on the board in the top half of the fourth.

Toro singled to start the fourth and moved to third when Steph Tonuci reached on an infield throwing error. Cunningham then hit into a groundout as Toro scored, making the score 6-1.

In the fifth inning, Baldwin and Lucianna Boggi singled to start the inning with Baldwin moving to third on a fielder's choice by Macey Matlock.  Jazmine Ramirez singled to score Baldwin and two batters later Mianna Lopez Del Haro singled to score Matlock, cutting the Rams lead to 7-3.

Jefferson added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth and another in the sixth to round out the scoring.

Quinones took the loss to fall to 3-9 on the season.

The women's softball team returns to action on Thursday, April 20, 2023 when they travel to face Caldwell University.  First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
