The Chestnut Hill College softball team played a pair of close contests against perennial Central Atlantic collegiate conference powerhouse Caldwell University on Thursday falling to the Cougars 2-1 in the opening game and 6-1 in the nightcap.

The Griffins fall to 6-35 overall with the sweep while Caldwell improves to 28-11

An error in Caldwell's final at-bat in the opener provided the winning runner for the Cougars as the earned a 2-1 victory.

Abbie Alt-Ambriz had allowed just eight hits and one run through the first six innings before giving up the unearned run with one out in the seventh as she falls to 2-9 on the season.

Skyler Cunningham had two of the Griffins' three hits while Jazmine Ramirez had the other and drove in the Griffins' only run.

Cunningham singled to open the second inning and made her way to third via an infield out and a wild pitch before Ramirez hit a single into right field enabling Cunningham to score and give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.

Caldwell tied the game in the bottom of the second and could have scored more but Alt-Ambriz induced a bases loaded two-out fly ball out to end the inning as the Cougars left the bases full.

The Cougars scored the winning run in the seventh following a single, a sacrifice and then a one-out infield error.

In game two, Caldwell took advantage of another CHC error in the first inning as they scored four times and made it stand for a 6-1 win.
