The Chestnut Hill College Softball team dropped both ends of their doubleheader Monday afternoon, losing to 8-1 and 15-3 to Georgian court University at the CHC Softball Field.
The Griffins fall to 8-37 overall and 5-17 in Central Atlantic Collegiate conference games. The Lions improve to 30-16 overall and 14-6 in league play.
Kayla Rolon had two hits in the opener while driving in the Griffins' lone run. She also drove in a run in the second game.  Steph Tonuci had a single in the opener and added two more hits and an RBI in the second game. Peyton Baldwin had a single in game two while Skyler Cunningham had a single and an RBI in the second contest. Mianna Lopez Del Haro had a hit in each game.
Gabriella Quinones (4-10) took the loss in the opener, tossing five innings and allowing six runs (two earned) on six hits with one strikeout. Abbie Alt-Ambriz (3-10) took the loss in game two, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing seven runs (three earned) and nine hits.
Chestnut Hill scored in the first inning in both contests to take early leads before the Lions roared back; each time with a big inning to flip the score in their favor.
In the opener Lopez Del Haro and Tonuci had one out singles with Tonuci scoring on Rolon's center field single to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.
The Lions had their big inning in their half of the third, taking advantage of two Griffin errors to plate four unearned runs and take a 4-1 lead. GCU added two more runs in the fifth on Kaitlyn Stufft's two-run home run and tacked on two more in the seventh for the 8-1 win.
Two walks and a bunt single from Tonuci loaded the bases with nobody out in the first inning of game two. Cunningham followed with a single to left field to score Samantha Toro with the first run and Lopez Del Haro scored on a fielder's choice when the Lions could not get a force out at third base off Rolon's grounder to shortstop, keeping the bases loaded and prompting a GCU pitching change just five batters into the game. A double play by the Lions kept the Griffins from scoring any additional runs as they left the inning with a 2-0 lead.
Tonuci's RBI single made the score 3-0 after two innings. GCU added a run in the third to make the score 3-1 and then had their big inning to take the lead in the fifth, scoring six runs, four of them following a two-out outfield error to take a 7-3 lead.
The Lions added eight runs in the sixth inning to complete the 15-3 win.
The women's softball team returns to action for their final games of the season on Wednesday April 26, 2023, when the host Post University. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
