Softball Team Swept by Bears

The Chestnut Hill College Softball team returned to conference play on Friday as they were shutout and swept by Bloomfield College 2-0 and 8-0 at the CHC Softball Field

The Griffins dropped to 5-28 overall and 2-8 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  The Bears improve to 5-6 in league play and 8-25 overall.

Gabriella Quinones (2-7) pitched a solid game in the opener, giving up just two runs on seven hits while striking out three.

Bloomfield strung together three hits in the second inning to score their only two runs of the game.

Chestnut Hill got two of their four hits in the first inning.  Mianna Lopez Del Haro led off with a double but was retired on a fly ball double play.  Steph Tonuci then had the first of her two hits in the game. Tonuci added a double in the fourth and Maya Kemper had a single in the fifth but both runners were stranded on the base paths.

In game two, Bloomfield scored six runs in their first two at-bats en route to an 8-0 win in six innings.

Abbie Alt-Ambriz (2-8) took the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits in two innings of work.

The Bears had four hits in the first inning, plating two runs and added four more runs on four hits in the second inning to take a 6-0 lead.

Peyton Baldwin doubled in the second inning for the Griffins' first hit of the game and Chestnut Hill had single hits in each of the next four innings to finish with five for the game.  Kayla Rolon had the only other extra base hit, a one out double in the fourth.

Bloomfield added a run in the fourth and one more in the sixth to round out their scoring.

The women's softball team returns to action on Wednesday April 12, 2023, for a doubleheader at Goldey-Beacom College. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
