Raiders Overtake Griffins in Second Half

Juan Ortiz scored twice in the first half, staking the Chestnut Hill college Men's Soccer team to a 2-1 halftime lead against host Shippensburg University Saturday night.  The Raiders, however, came back with two unanswered goals in the second half to pull out a 3-2 win.

The Griffins fall to 0-1-1 on the season while Shippensburg is now 1-0 -0.

Ortiz gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead early in the game, scoring at the 5:12 mark with David Cortez earning the assist.  The senior added his second goal at the 36:42 mark with Juan Molina getting the assist on the play to give the Griffins a 2-0 lead.

Shippensburg cut the lead in half less than two minutes later with a goal at the 38:22 mark of the first half to round of the scoring in the first 45 minutes.

The Raiders tied the score early in the second half with a goal in the 49th minute and took the lead 3-2 with a goal in the 63rd minute.

Chestnut Hill continued to push the play as the game wore on, out-shooting Shippensburg 5-0 over the final 28 minutes but were unable to score the equalizer.

The Griffins outshot the Raiders 18-8 for the game (9-6 on goal). Ortiz led all players with eight shots while Terrance Doe added four.  Ortiz and Doe had four shots on goal apiece. CHC goalkeeper Eran Shifris had two saves on the night.

The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, when they travel north to take on D'Youville University in Buffalo, New York.  Kickoff is at 12:00 p.m.
