Juan Molina set the tone for the afternoon, scoring his first goal of the game just 52 seconds after the opening kick as the Chestnut Hill college Men's soccer team gave Head Coach Dave Castellanos his first win as a Griffin, defeating D'Youville University 8-0 in Buffalo, New York Wednesday afternoon.
The Griffins improve to 1-1-1 with the win while the Saints fall to 0-2.
Chestnut Hill's eight goals in the game set a program Division II era record for goals in a game and was just one shy of tying the school's overall record of nine tallies, set back in 2005, also against D'Youville (then known as D'Youville College).  The Griffins' 37 shots taken is also a program Division II era record and just one shy of the overall school record of 38 which was also set back in 2005 against D'Youville.
Molina's opening goal was shot from the top right corner of the 18 yard box. The senior then assisted on the Griffins' next two scores, one by
David Cortez at the 20:59 mark and another 23 seconds later from
Abdoulaye Kamagate. Both were made possible by Molina's cross passes from the right side to the left. Â
In the second half, the Griffins exploded for five goals starting in the 59
th minute with a header by
Oliver Karlin off a corner kick as
Diego Cabrera picked up the assist. Molina added his second goal of the game, an unassisted tally from 25 yards out in the 62
nd minute. Molina's goal gave him six points on the afternoon, the most points by a Griffins player since Joe Casoletto had six in a game at Felician University in October 2017.
Less than a minute later
Sergio Abelardy took a cross pass from
Juan Ortiz and tapped in for a 6-0 CHC lead. Ortiz also assisted on the Griffins' seventh goal a shot from
Malik Palmer that deflected off a Saints' player and into the net.Â
Jimmy Paz rounded out the scoring with an unassisted goal from 25 yards out in the 84
th minute.
The Griffins' defense limited D'Youville to just one shot the entire game while producing 37 of their own. CHC goalkeeper
Eran Shifris recorded his first solo shutout and his first career win as a Griffin.
