Griffins Lose First Conference Game of Season, Falling to Rams, 2-1

The Chestnut Hill College Men's soccer team ventured down the road to take on Jefferson University  for their second Central Atlantic collegiate conference match of the season Wednesday afternoon.  Following a scoreless first half, the Rams scored twice in thew first six minutes of the second half and hung on to hand the Griffins a 2-1 loss.

The Griffins fall to 2-3-1 overall and 1-1 in CACC games.  The Rams improve to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in league games.

Chestnut Hill goalkeeper Eran Shifris kept the Rams off the board with six saves in the first half while his counterpart Matteo Crescente did the same, making five saves.

The scoreless game ended when Jefferson's Sean Stackhouse got a shot past Shifris on the left side of the goal with an assist from Rob Arnason.  Jefferson made it 2-0 less than five minutes later on an unassisted goal from Diego Guzman.

The Griffins continued to battle and brought the score to 2-1 when Juan Ortiz converted a penalty kick in the 84th minute.  Chestnut Hill continued to put on the pressure over the final 6:25, tallying three corner kicks and two shots on goal but were unable to net the equalizer as the Rams hung on for the win.

Looking at the numbers, the Griffins tallied 17 shots (ten on target) while Jefferson took 11 shots (eight on target).   Chestnut Hill also had seven corner kicks to Jefferson's six.

The Chestnut Hill Men's Soccer team returns to action on Saturday, September 23, 2023, with a game at CACC rival Caldwell University.  Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
