The Griffins improve to 11-5 with the win while the Mavericks drop to 9-6. The 43 points Chestnut Hill allowed mark the fifth time this season that the women's basketball team has held an opponent under 50 points.
Emily Sekerak led all scorers with 13 points and was the only Chestnut Hill player to reach double figures.
Bridie McCann, Avery White and
Caleigh Edwards had seven points apiece.
Sekerak also led the Griffins with seven rebounds.Â
Bri Rider and McCann had six rebounds apiece while
Sara Tamoun grabbed five. Edwards led the team with three steals while

Leading by just one at halftime, the Griffins used a 6-0 run midway through the period to take a 32-27 lead, getting baskets from White, Edwards and
Caraline Herb. Mercy cut the lead to three before a steal and layup from Tamoun followed by a free throw from Herb in the final minute gave CHC a 37-31 lead heading into the final quarter.
McCann scored the first points of the fourth quarter to give the Griffins their biggest lead of the game, 39-31. The Mavericks closed within four midway through the period and again in the final minute of play but could pull no closer. Free throws from Edwards and Herb provided the final two points for the Griffins.
The Griffins scored 30 of their 49 points in the paint while shooting 34% from the field (17-50). CHC's defense limited the Mavericks to just 26.4% shooting (14-53) and just a 1-for-12 effort from three point range. Mercy outrebounded the Griffins 42-34 while the Griffins committed fewer turnovers (15 to Mercy's 24).Â
The women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, January 20, 2024 when they travel to Caldwell University to take on the Cougars in a CACC crossover contest. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
