In their final regular season home match of the fall season, the Chestnut Hill college Women's Tennis team dropped their penultimate conference match to Wilmington University, 6-1 at the CHC Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon.
The Griffins fall to 10-4 overall and 6-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games with one more match remaining (a road contest at Dominican on Thursday) before the conference championship tournament begins. Wilmington improves to 10-0 overall and in league play.
The Griffins will be the number three seed in the CACC tournament and will play Goldey-Beacom College at 1:00 p.m. in the semi-finals at the Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, Delaware.
Chestnut Hill's lone point in the match came at the number one singles slot, where Alison Isaac continues her dominant play over CACC foes, defeating Molly Carlberg 6-2, 7-5 to improve to 8-0 in conference singles matches and 14-2 overall.
Isaac also teamed up with Lilian Bandel to record a win at #1 doubles, 6-3 over Ming-Fu Chen and Ines Oliveira. Isaac and Bandel are a perfect 6-0 in conference doubles matches. Isaac also won three conference doubles contests with teammate Elena Arenas Guisasola to have a 9-0 record in conference matches on the season.  Bandel also sports a 9-0 record in conference matches in doubles play, winning the six with Isaac and three matches earlier in the season with Romi Meirovich (7-2 in CACC doubles contests).
Bandel and Isaac's doubles win was the lone win out of three doubles matches as the Wildcats took the doubles point to lead 1-0. Wilmington then dominated singles play, winning four straight matches before Isaac put the Griffins on the board with her singles win, making the score 5-1.
Arenas split the first two sets with her opponent at #3 singles Lyza Sylka, 3-6, 6-4 before falling in the tiebreaker 10-4 to give Sylka the win , 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4).
The women's tennis team will play their final conference game of the season on Thursday, October 17, 2024, when they travel to face Dominican University in Orangeburg, New York. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
