Romi Meirovich's three set win Saturday afternoon sent the Chestnut Hill College Women's Tennis team into Sunday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship match as the #3 seed Griffins defeated the #2 seed Goldey-Beacom College Lightning 4-1 in the semi-final round at the Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, Delaware.
Chestnut Hill improves to 12-4 on the season with the win. Chestnut Hill will now face defending champion at #1 seed Wilmington University on Sunday, October 20, 2024, with the match starting at 12:00 p.m. at Delcastle.
Meirovich, playing at #4 singles, defeated Jess Sanzo 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 to give the Griffins their fourth point and clinch the match win. The senior athlete also started things off by teaming with Claudia Rasilla to win their #3 doubles match 6-0 over Sanzo and Lucia Corte, giving the Griffins the first of the two wins necessary to clinch the doubles point to open the match.
Elena Arenas Guisasola and Annabel Snow got the second of the two wins needed in doubles, defeating Elizabeth Mova and Nahomi Quinonez 6-3 at #2 doubles.
In singles play, the Lightning tied the match at 1-1 with Sofia Lopez defeating Snow 6-0, 6-2 at #5 singles. Rasilla followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Corte at #6 to put the Griffins ahead 2-1.
Lilian Bandel, whose doubles match with her partner Alison Isaac went unfinished with the CHC duo leading 5-3 at the time, gave the Griffins a 3-1 lead in the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Zehra Canbaz at #2 singles. Meirovich than put the icing on the cake with her win at #4 singles, sending the Griffins to the tournament finals for the first time since the COVID shortened 2020-21 season and just the second time since 2015.
Arenas' #3 singles match went unfinished with her leading 3-0 in the third set. Isaac's number one singles match also went unfinished with Isaac winning the first set and was in the middle of a second set tiebreaker when the match ended.
