A late goal from Jefferson University broke a 1-1 tie to send the Rams to a 2-1 win over the Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team Tuesday night at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill.
The Griffins fall to 1-3-1 overall and 1-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Jefferson improves to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in league play.
With the game knotted at 1-1, the Rams were putting pressure on the Griffins defense over the final ten minutes and broke through as Kyra Lesko scored in the 86th minute to give the Rams the lead.
The Griffins had tied the scored in the first half when Abby Galazka was fouled within the box in the 34th minute and converted the subsequent penalty kick for her third goal of the season, tying her for the team lead.
Jefferson got on the board first with a goal in the 14th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
For the game, the Rams outshot the Griffins 18-7 (10-4 on goal).  Maddie Camillo and Virginia Perry had two shots apiece (one each on goal) to lead the Griffins. Galazka (penalty kick) and Kaitlyn Brace had the remaining shots on goal for the Griffins. Â
Ellie Stratz had eight saves in net for Chestnut Hill.
The women's soccer team returns to action on Saturday October 5, 2024, when they travel to face Felician University in Rutherford, New Jersey. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
