A late goal lifted the University of Bridgeport to a 3-2 win over the Chestnut Hill College Men's Soccer team Saturday afternoon at Knight's Field in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
The Griffins fall to 3-6-4 overall and 1-4-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matches. The Purple Knights improve to 6-4-2 overall and 5-2 in league play.
With the score tied at 2-2 in the 87th minute UB's Joao Miranda found the back on the net for the go-ahead goal and eventual game-winner. The goal was the second in a row for the Purple Knights who erased in 2-1 Griffins lead in the final 20 minutes of action.
Dane Bodziak had given the Griffins a 2-1 lead in the 69th minute, taking a pass from Kevin Aguiriano and scoring his third goal of the season.  Five minutes earlier  Jaime Arrola took a pass from Diego Cruz and shot it past UB goalkeeper Gianny Provincial for the Griffins first goal and tie the game at 1-1.
Bridgeport's Lucas Sousa broke a scoreless tie with a penalty kick goal in the 61st minute.
Cruz, Bodziak and Arrola were the only Griffins to record a shot on goal in the match, with Bodziak and Cruz getting two apiece and Arrola one (his goal at the 63:17 mark). The Griffins were outshot on goal 8-5.
Rodrigo Artiga made five saves in net for the Griffins.
The men's soccer team returns to action with a home contest against Five Towns College on Thursday, October 25, 2024. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
