Griffins Forge Tie with Nationally Ranked Sound

Andres Felipe Gomez scored his first goal of the season Thursday night as the Chestnut Hill College Men's Soccer team forged a tie with nationally ranked Five Towns college at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill.

The Griffins are now 3-6-5 overall.  The Sound, ranked number four in the United State Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national poll are now 10-4-3.

Trailing 1-0 in the second half, the Griffins were attacking on offense as Jimmy Paz drove down the left side. Paz fired a cross to Gomez who shot the ball past FTC goalkeeper Jose Garcia to even the score at 1-1 in the 67th minute.

The two teams continued to battle back and forth as the game continued with each side getting off two shots on goal in the final 23 minutes of action.  Chestnut Hill made one final push in the final three minutes which led to two corner kicks and a shot on goal by Dane Bodziak but were unable to score as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

The Sound's goal came in the 54th minute as Griffin goalkeeper Rodrigo Artiga saved a shot taken by FTC's Erick Giron and the rebound went straight to the foot of Angel Chavez who put a shot past Artiga for a 1-0 lead.

Artiga finished the game with seven saves while Garcia had nine saves for the Sound.  The Griffins outshot the Sound 19-16 (10-8 on net).  Bodziak had three shots on goal while Diego Cruz and Terrance Doe added two apiece.

The men's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, October 26, 2024 when they host Caldwell University for a key conference contest.  Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
