The Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team struggled to find the back of the net despite placing 11 shots on goal as they fell to the University of Bridgeport 4-2 Saturday afternoon at Knights field in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
The Griffins fall to 2-7-1 overall and 2-5 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Purple Knights improve to 4-6-3 overall and 3-3 in league play.
Chestnut Hill had five shots on goal in the first 12 minutes of the game, three from Abby Galazka and two from Kendall Gayton but were unable to get one past UB goalkeeper Angelina Griva.
Bridgeport scored twice on their first three shots on goal, taking a 2-0 lead by halftime. Five minutes into the second half the Purple Knights made it 3-0 on Leigh Ann-Ramsey's second goal of the game.
Rebecca Dalton got the Griffins on the board in the 67th minute with Lauren Sullivan getting the assist. Kaya Mobley cut the deficit to 3-2 with a goal in the 72nd minute with Virginia Perry getting the assist on the play.
Bridgeport added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute to round out the scoring.
The Griffins outshot the Purple Knights 18-16 (11-8 on net).  Galazka finished the game with four shots on goal while Gayton and Sullivan had two apiece.
Haley Esposito had four saves as the Griffins goalkeeper.
The women's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, October 26, 2024, with a game against Caldwell University at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
