Second Half Goals by Cougars Upend Griffins

The Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team dropped their third consecutive game Saturday afternoon, falling to Caldwell University 3-1 at victory field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.

The loss drops the Griffins record to 2-8-1 overall and 2-6 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matches.  Caldwell improves to 10-3-1 overall and 8-1 in league play.

Prior to the start of the game, the women's Soccer team and the Athletic Department honored three players who are completing their final year as members of the Griffins' women's soccer team.  Abby Galazka and Elizabeth Deal were among Head Coach Jonathan Geist's first recruits at Chestnut Hill and have played in over 50 games each over the course of their career.  Galazka has seen action as a forward/midfielder while Deal ha been primarily a defender. Antonia Linus is in her second season with the Griffins after playing two seasons at West Chester University.  This year she is part of the Griffins' defensive unit alongside Deal.  In 2023 she was a forward/midfielder scoring five goals to lead the team.  All three will graduate in May.

In game action in was the Griffins that struck first with Lauren Sullivan taking a cross pass from Alyssa DeGeorge and perfectly placing past CU goalkeeper Ariana Gaminara for a 1-0 lead just 7:46 into the game.

The Cougars tied the score on a penalty kick at the 12:18 mark and the score remained 1-1 heading into the second half.

Caldwell added two more goals in a five minute stretch between the 64th and 69th minutes to secure the 3-1 win.

Griffin goalkeeper Ellie Stratz had seven saves while Gaminara had eight for the Cougars.  Caldwell narrowly outshot Chestnut Hill 16-15 (11-9 on net) with Sullivan, Galazka and Virginia Perry all getting multiple shots on goal.

The women's soccer team returns to action on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, when they travel to face Holy Family university.  Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
