Rebecca Dalton's first half goal was all that the Chestnut Hill college women's soccer team needed as they defeated area and conference rival holy Family University 1-0 Tuesday evening at HFU's tiger field in Northeast Philadelphia.
The Griffins improve to 3-6 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games and 3-8-1 overall. The Tigers fall to 5-8-1 overall and 4-5 in league play.
Dalton connected for her fourth goal of the season at the 10:56 mark, giving the Griffins the 1-0 lead. Abby Galazka and Antonia Linus were credited with the assists on the score. Her goal was the also the Griffins first shot of the game.
From there the Griffins' defense went to work, holding the Tigers to just eight shots the rest of the way and zero shots on goal.  Chestnut Hill meanwhile added 15 more shots and two more shots on goal, a header from Kendall Gayton as the first half was nearing its close and a shot from Alyssa DeGeorge in the 60th minute.
For the game, The Griffins outshot the Tigers 16-10 (3-1 on net).  Chestnut Hill Goalkeeper Ellie Stratz recorded her first shutout of the season while making one save on the night.  HFU keeper Jaina Preuhs had two saves.
The women's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, October 26, 2024 for a key conference matchup at Post University in Waterbury Connecticut. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
