Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Dalton Scores Four Times as Griffins Power Past Eagles

Rebecca Dalton had the game of her career on Saturday, scoring four times as the Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team edged closer to securing a berth in the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate conference Tournament with a 4-3 win at Post University at Lamoy Field in Waterbury, Connecticut.

The Griffins improve to 4-8-1 overall and 4-6 in CACC contests.  Post, who was eliminated from playoff contention with the loss, falls to 2-11 overall and 2-7 in league play.   Chestnut Hill moves into the eighth and final playoff slot with 12 points and one conference game remaining.  Trailing the Griffins is Goldey-Beacom College with 10 points.   A tie or a win by the Griffins in their final game next Friday against Georgian Court University or a Goldey-Beacom loss on Friday vs. Wilmington University will secure a spot in the upcoming CACC Tournament.

Dalton's four goals equal the most by a CACC player in a match this season.  The junior forward also becomes just the fourth player in the program's 22-year history to score four or more goals in a game and the first to do so since Lauren Riiff scored four times at Lincoln University in August of 2009.

The Griffins opened the scoring at the 9:20 mark with as Dalton headed a corner kick from Lauren Sullivan past Post goalkeeper Aryn Nisbet for a 1-0 lead.  A little less than six minutes later Post tied the game at 1-1.

Dalton broke the tie with her second header goal of the afternoon, putting the shot past Nisbet on the right side at the 25:51 mark.  Just under three minutes later, Dalton received a cross pass from Sullivan and one-timed it past Nisbet for her third goal of the game and the hat-trick, giving the Griffins a 3-1 lead.

The score remained 3-1 until the 67th minute when Dalton completed her haul, scoring off her own rebound to push the Griffins lead to 4-1.

The Eagles added two goals in the final 3:30 to make the final score 4-3 as the Griffins hung on for the win.

For the game, Chestnut Hill fired 25 shots (10 on net) with Dalton leading the way with five shots on goal and six total.  Kendall Gayton had five shots (one on net), and Alyssa DeGeorge added four (one on net). Sullivan, Antonia Linus and Lorenza D'Andrea had CHC's remaining shots on goal.  Ellie Stratz had two saves for the Griffins.

Post had nine total shots (five on goal.).  Nisbet finished with six saves.

The women's soccer team will play their final regular season game on Friday November 8, 2024, at Victory field against Georgian court University.  With a playoff berth on the line, kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
