The Chestnut Hill College Women's Volleyball team took a break from conference play Monday evening to face Lincoln University, sweeping the Lions 3-0 at Sorgenti Arena.
The Griffins improve to 16-8 on the season.
Prior to the start of the game, the athletics department and the women's volleyball team recognized three senior players who are playing in their final season as Griffins. Cha'kya Johnson, Pamela Uceta and Erika Dubosky were honored in a pre-game ceremony in which their accomplishments throughout their respective careers were highlighted and the department presented each player with a small gift to show their appreciation.
The Griffins won with scores of 25-20, 25-13 and 25-18.
Dubosky and Johnson led the way with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Uceta and Angela April had seven kills apiece and Maya Hopson chipped in five.
Mia Caporellie set the offense with 36 assists while April and Uceta had four aces apiece. While Dubosky added three.
Defensively, Dubosky had nine digs with Alexandra Crespin adding eight.
Eight ties highlighted the early portion of the opening set before the Griffins went on a 6-2 run to break a 10-10 deadlock and take a 16-12 lead, scoring off of two Uceta aces and kills from Hopson and Dubosky along with two Lion errors. The Lions rallied to tie the score at 19-19 before April put down a kill to give the Griffins the lead for good as they closed out the set on 6-1 run.
April's three consecutive aces put the Griffins in control in the early part of the second set as Chestnut Hill opened up a 12-5 lead and never looked back. Kills from Johnson and Hopson made the score 20-12 and forced a Lincoln timeout. CHC finished off the set with a 5-1 spurt with Uceta serving the final two points.
Lincoln held a slim lead for the first half of the third set before a kill from Dubosky and two more points served by Katelyn Dougherty gave the Griffins the lead and contributed to a 7-2 run and a three-point advantage 18-15. Lincoln would get no closer than two points the rest of the way and Uceta scored the final two points (an ace and a kill) to secure the sweep, 25-18.
The women's volleyball team returns to action on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 when they host Wilmington University at Sorgenti Arena for their final home regular season contest. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
