Strong Second Half Gives Griffins first Win of Season

A dominant second half by the Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team as they earned their first win of the season, defeating Queens College 68-50 at Fitzgerald Gymnasium in Queens New York Saturday afternoon.

The Griffins improve to 1-2 with the win while the Knights remain winless at 0-3.

Three players reached double figures for Chestnut hill, led by Noah Charles.  Charles scored a game-high 12 points (5-7 FG).  IV Pettit and Omari Salvi had 11 points apiece with Salvi scoring nine of the 11 in the second half.  Neal Hill (seven points) led all player with ten rebounds.  Pettit led the team with five assists while Landon Shivers had two blocks.

Eleven different players scored for Chestnut Hill in the second half as they took a seven point lead and expanded it to as many as 27 points late in the period.  The Griffins opened the half with a 16-2 uprising to lead 50-29 with 12:39 left.  Two baskets by Alejandro Redondo Cybak and one from Kamal Lee capped the run.  Queens scored four straight points following the Lee basket to pull within 17, 50-33.  CHC's lead was still 17 with 7:44 left when the Griffins used an 11-1 run to take their biggest lead of the game 66-39 with 3:34 left. A four-point play from Salvi started the run and Zaki Alston capped it with a pair of free throws.  Queens finished the game on an 11-2 run to make the final score 68-50.

Queens was led by Omari Byrd's nine points. Shamar Chester had eight rebounds.

The men's basketball team returns to action on Monday, November 18, 2024, when they travel to face Shippensburg University at Heiges Fieldhouse in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.  Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
