Volleyball Team Falls to Dominican in CACC Quarterfinals

The Chestnut Hill College Women's Volleyball team saw their season come to an end Tuesday night as Dominican University won the final two sets of their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference quarterfinal match and hand the Griffins a 3-2 loss at Sorgenti Arena.

The two teams split the first two sets via identical 25-21 scores before the Griffins took a 2-1 lead with a 25-14 win in set three.  The Chargers battled to take a 26-24 win in the fourth set to tie the match before dominating the latter half of the fifth set, winning 15-8 to take the contest, 3-2.

The Griffins finish their season at 17-10, setting school records for most wins in a season and best winning percentage (.630).

Kate Hanley led the Griffins with a career-high 17 kills while hitting .361 (17-4-36).  Erika Dubosky finished the match with 15 kills while Maya Hopson added 14 and led the team with a .370 attack% (14-4-27).  Angela April and Cha'kya Johnson finished with nine kills apiece.

Mia Caporellie had a career high 59 assists while also recording a double-double with a career-high 19 digs. She also led the team with four aces. Dubosky also notched a double-double with 18 digs.  Alexandra Crespin had 13 digs while Pamela Uceta chipped in 12.  Rachel Mace finished the game with nine digs. Hopson led the team with four blocks.

April (five kills) and Hanley (four kills) combined for nine kills without an error (9-0-10) to lead the griffins in the first set with Caporellie assisting on 18 of the team's 19 kills in the set, leading the Griffins to a 25-21 win for the early lead in the match 1-0.

The Chargers led wire-to-wire in the seconds set, evening the match at 1-1 with a 25-21 win.  Dubosky had five kills and Hanley added four.

The third set was close for much of the first half of action with the Griffins holding a slim 12-10 lead.  Six straight Griffin points, capped by two Crespin aces gave the hosts an 18-10 lead and they never looked back, expanding the margin to ten, 21-11 on Uceta's ace en route to the 25-14 win, and a 2-1 lead in the match.

Dominican led 11-5 in the fourth set when the Griffins started to battle back, pulling within one on a pair of blocks from Hopson and Hanley at 15-14  and later tying the game at 21-21 on a Caporellie ace.   Hanley's kill later gave the griffins a 24-23 lead and brought the contest to match point.   The Chargers however scored three straight to force a fifth and final set with a 26-24 win.

The Chargers were near-perfect in the fifth and final set, recording seven kills without an error as the jumped out to leads of 3-0, 7-3 and 10-5 before completing the comeback with a 15-8 win in the final set.

Elizabeth Perez led the Chargers with 17 kills while Kaitlyn Carr added 12. Kaeden Sanstead had 42 assists and Linda Armao Peng recorded 25 digs.

The loss concludes the 2024 season for the women's volleyball team.
